Switching control of latex balloon expansion by using switching valve mediated with the Coanda effect

Abstract Soft robots have advantages in terms of safety, softness, and compliance compared to traditional robotic systems. However, fluid-driven soft actuators, often employed robots, require a corresponding number bulky pressure supplies/valves drive. Here, we consider valve that can control the flow without mechanical moving parts for simplifying driving system actuators. We developed comprising pump, switching valve, two latex balloons demonstrate feasibility introducing fluid into robotics. As which makes use Coanda effect, switch between outlets when difference is 3 kPa, balloon connected each outlet. The expansion by from pump. experimental results proved could actuate balloon.
